At 8mm and above, it becomes a more deliberate style choice with a bolder presence. 6mm sits in between — noticeable without being oversized, which is part of why it's a common default for both men's and women's wedding bands. It also tends to be more forgiving on sizing than wider widths, since less surface area means less snugness if you're between sizes.
